MOVERS AND SHAKERS
by Bishop Steve Pegram

Acts 2:38 - 43

When you look at the New Testament church that was being birthed here, what do you see? I see Movers and Shakers! I see men and women who made a difference everywhere they went. I see Peter, a mover and a shaker, who wasn't afraid to stand up and boldly proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Who exactly are movers and shakers though? I mean, what makes a person a mover and a shaker? It is in fact, simply people who make things happen!

You see, not everyone who serves the Lord or attends our churches is actually people that will make things happen. No, as a matter of fact, there are four types of people who comprise most any church.

  1. The people that just hear about things happening.
  2. These are the people who stand afar off but will not get too close to the power of God or the anointing. They are like the fifty sons of the prophets in the Old Testament who stood afar off while only Elisha pressed in. And, only Elisha received the double portion too!

  3. The people who oppose things happening.
  4. These are the people that do not want God doing anything in their church, especially anything new! They oppose anything and everything that they themselves didn't think of or was involved with. The only problem is that for the most part, these type of people never want any "real" moves of God to take place because they just might be exposed. So, they fight the moves of God tooth and nail each and every time the church starts getting in a "revival" spirit.

  5. The people who help other people to make things happen.
  6. These are the people who love the Lord with all their hearts, but just can't seem themselves as leaders. So, they are content to stay in the background only lending support to those who are in leadership roles. These fall into the "helps ministry" that the Bible talks about.

  7. The people that make things happen!

Now these are your movers and shakers! These are the ones who cannot sit back. They must be about their Father's business and do the work of the Kingdom. They "have to" move and do something because if they don't, they feel like they will explode!

Why is this? Because when you look at movers and shakers in the Bible, you see them literally shaking their surroundings. The Holy Ghost moved them and when they were, they were shaken by the power of God to shake their world. Just listen to what the Word of God says about it!

Of Sampson, in Judges 13:25 it says, "that the Spirit began to move him."

Of Ezekial, in Ezekial 37:1-10, it says that when God moved on him, that an entire valley of dry bones began to move and shake!

Of the disciples in Acts 4:31, it says "And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and spake the word of God with boldness."

Of Paul and Silas, in Acts 16:25-26, it says "And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken."

Over and over again all throughout our Bibles, it tells about people who moved and shook their surroundings! Oh, how we need more people like that in this modern day we live in! God give us some movers and shakers in this modern church! Let us shake our churches, shake our communities, shake our society and shake our world for Jesus!
